Why the Reading Section Sometimes Disappears in Dash

Learners may notice that the Reading section does not appear in their My Required Learning view in Dash, especially earlier in the week. In most cases, this is expected system behavior and part of how Alpha Anywhere supports learners in addressing Reading Knowledge Gaps.

Below is a clear explanation of why this happens and what learners should do.

What Is Happening

When a learner is assigned Reading Knowledge Gaps, those lessons are temporarily delivered through the Language section instead of appearing under a separate Reading section.

During this time:

  • The Reading section may not appear as its own category in Dash.

  • Reading-related work is still being assigned and counted, just within Language.

  • Learners will see the Reading section reappear later once Knowledge Gaps are completed.

This design ensures learners focus first on the most important foundational skills before moving forward.

Why Alpha Anywhere Does This

Alpha Anywhere intentionally manages how Reading and Language appear because the two subjects are closely connected and support one another.

This approach helps ensure long-term success, not just short-term progress.

Specifically, this design allows Alpha Anywhere to:

  • Keep Reading and Language progress aligned
Reading comprehension relies heavily on vocabulary, grammar, and language structure. Keeping these subjects in sync prevents gaps that could surface later.

  • Prioritize foundational skills first
When Reading Knowledge Gaps are identified, those skills are addressed through the Language section so learners can strengthen what matters most before moving forward.

  • Prevent learners from advancing too far in one subject
Moving ahead in Reading while Language gaps remain can create confusion and slow progress later. This structure avoids that imbalance.

  • Support accurate placement and smoother progression
Completing Knowledge Gap work first helps ensure learners are placed at the right Reading level and are set up for success when Reading appears again as its own section.

This system is intentional and designed to support steady, confident progress across both subjects.

What Learners Should Do

If the Reading section is not visible, learners should:

  • Continue completing all assigned work in the Language section.

  • Treat Language lessons as their active Reading work during this period.

  • Stay consistent with daily progress, even if Reading appears temporarily hidden.

  • Spend 50 minutes in the Language section
This time covers both Language and Reading work, since Reading Knowledge Gap lessons are included within Language during this period.

No additional action is needed beyond completing assigned lessons.

When the Reading Section Will Reappear

The Reading section will return once:

  • All Reading Knowledge Gap Override lessons are completed.

At that point, Reading will appear again as its own section with clearly defined goals.

Reassurance

If Reading seems to disappear, progress is still being made. The system is working as intended to support the learner’s long-term success and accurate placement.

If the Reading section does not return after Language Knowledge Gaps are completed, families can contact the support team for help.
