Breakthrough Coaching

1:1 high-performance coaching for Alpha Anywhere students: what it is, how it works, pricing, and how to enroll.

What Is Breakthrough Coaching?

Breakthrough Coaching is 1:1 high-performance coaching for students ages 8 to 14, paired with Alpha Anywhere's AI-powered learning platform. It is the virtual adaptation of the Guide role from Alpha's physical schools, designed for families learning at a distance and around the world.

This is not tutoring and not teaching. Coaches don't deliver lessons or grade tests. They build motivation, mindset, and independence. The approach is grounded in Dr. David Yeager's "Mentor Mindset" research from 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People, combining high standards with high support.

The target outcome: 2x academic growth on MAP testing compared to non-coached peers, while developing lifelong learning and self-management skills.

Who Are Our Coaches?

Our coaches are proven high-achievers from diverse backgrounds: athletics, education, entrepreneurship, and the arts. Every coach is trained in performance psychology and Alpha's methodology. They serve students across multiple time zones and countries, with team members spanning the U.S., South America, Europe, and Australia.

Coaches are dedicated thought partners, not instructors. They don't teach lessons, grade tests, or follow a set curriculum. They develop through weekly session analysis, peer learning, and individualized mentorship from program leadership.

How the Program Works

Your child receives two 1:1 virtual coaching sessions per week, 20 minutes each, for a total of 80 sessions per academic year (40 weeks).

Each session follows a flexible structure that adapts to the student's needs:

  • Personal connection and rapport building (~5 minutes)

  • Dashboard review, goal-setting, and performance strategy (~10 minutes)

  • Action steps, accountability, and launch into their learning block (~5 minutes)

Coaches use Alpha Anywhere dashboard data to translate metrics into one clear, measurable goal per session that the student can own.

Level Up Lounge (Drop-In Support)

In addition to scheduled sessions, students have access to weekly open "office hours" where they can drop in for real-time support, encouragement, or just connection.

Level Up Lounge sessions are themed and led by individual coaches: trivia, research races, mindfulness, arts and crafts, and more. They are designed to build community and critical thinking outside pure academics, similar to the social and support structures students would have in a physical school setting.

What Makes This Different From Tutoring

Coaches don't deliver content. Alpha's AI-powered platform handles the academics. Coaching focuses on the inputs that drive results: motivation, habits, focus, time management, test-taking strategy, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy.

The relationship is the engine. Coaches know their students as people first: their interests, family dynamics, what gets them excited, and what shuts them down. Extrinsic motivators like AlphaBank rewards are used strategically to build toward intrinsic motivation, not as a crutch.

The goal is independence: students become the "pilot of their own ship" with the coach as navigator.

The Coaching Philosophy

  • High standards + high support: We set specific, challenging goals AND bend over backwards to help students meet them

  • Presume positive intent: Believe in every student's ability to learn and grow

  • Curiosity over diagnosis: When a student is stuck, the first question is about the person, not the content gap

  • Student advocacy at the center: We protect psychological safety, build trust, and create space for vulnerability

  • Whole-student education: Resilience, growth mindset, goal-setting, self-assessment, and metacognitive habits that serve students far beyond academics

How We Support Parents

  • Monthly progress updates from your child's coach highlighting wins, focus areas, and what's ahead

  • Coaching removes the burden of being motivator, administrator, and accountability partner simultaneously. Parents get to just be parents.

  • Coaches handle dashboard interpretation, goal-setting, and academic strategy so families don't have to

  • Strategic guidance on supporting learning at home without micromanaging

  • Clear communication channels for questions or concerns, with escalation paths through coaching leadership and the Parent Experience team

Getting Started

  1. Fill out the intake form. Share your motivations, learning environment, and student details: Complete the Breakthrough Coaching Intake Form

  2. Coach matching. Your child is matched with a coach based on personality, interests, learning style, and any special needs (ESL, neurodivergence, etc.)

  3. Welcome and scheduling. The coach sends a personalized welcome email and sets up recurring sessions via your family's scheduling link

  4. Relationship building (weeks 1-2). The first two weeks are dedicated to getting to know your child as a person before diving into academics

  5. Dashboard and goals (weeks 3-6). Dashboard introduction and goal-setting begins, building into a consistent coaching rhythm

Students also receive an onboarding quest that walks them through setting up their tools (Google Calendar, Google Chat, email) and earning their first AlphaBank rewards.

30-day compatibility assessment: If the coach-student match isn't clicking, reassignment is available.

  • 30-day risk-free guarantee: If it's not working, families can opt out with a full refund

What Coaching Is Not

  • Not teaching, tutoring, or lesson delivery

  • Not a replacement for the core Alpha Anywhere academic program; it's an accelerator layered on top

  • Not therapy or licensed counseling, though coaches are relational and prioritize emotional safety. When appropriate, coaches will engage parents to help them be fully informed if additional support could be beneficial.
