Is your child's name missing from the MAP test dropdown? Don't worry - this is a common issue with a simple solution.
What happened?
When a MAP test gets interrupted (computer freeze, browser crash, battery dies, or you accidentally close the window), the testing session becomes "suspended." NWEA requires a fresh session each time a test is paused and restarted. Additional errors that may occur include "failing to connect to the test service," "session is at capacity," and "failed to assign test."
The Quick Fix: Use the yellow "Reset Session" Button
How to Start the MAP Test
Sign in to the Parent Portal.
Open the student’s profile and navigate to the Learning Plan tab.
Select the tile for the subject to be tested.
The system will generate unique credentials for the testing session.
Use these credentials to begin the MAP assessment.
Step 1: Look for the button that says "I'm stuck" within the onboarding app. Click it to find more help options.
Step 2: Look for the "Reset Session" button to reset your learner's session.
Step 3: Go back to the NWEA MAP testing site and click the refresh button on the site. This step is critical!
Step 4: Your child's name should reappear in the dropdown menu. To resume, click Start Test, enter the provided test credentials, and select your child's name from the list. The system will resume the session from where it was left off.

Common Situations That Cause This Issue
Computer froze during the test
Browser window was accidentally closed
Laptop battery died before submitting
Internet connection was lost
How to Prevent This in the Future
Avoid Long Pauses:
Keep breaks short
Long pauses can cause the session to reset automatically
Technical Best Practices:
Ensure your device is fully charged or plugged in
Use a stable internet connection
Close other browser tabs and applications
Don't navigate away from the test page once started
Double-check that the correct credentials are being used for the session
Important Reminders
✅ Your child's progress is saved - they won't lose their answers when a session is recycled
✅ They won't see the same questions - this is normal MAP test behavior by design
✅ No time penalty - MAP tests are untimed, so technical issues won't hurt their score
✅ We're here to help - don't hesitate to reach out if the refresh button doesn't work
