Background
One common issue we hear from new students is that their work in not being tracked. The good news is that these issues can usually be quickly identified and corrected as they are often user workflow problems.
StudyReel works by monitoring screen activity and learning what students are working on, how they're progressing, and reports that information back to Dash. In most cases of Dash not being updated, the activity wasn't happening inside the student's StudyReel account.
Most likely causes
Not working inside StudyReel
90% of tracking issues are caused by this. StudyReel is the software that monitors student work and reports completion, mastery, and study habit data to Dash. When kids are doing work but don't see it getting recorded in Dash, this is almost always the cause.
Two common ways this happens:
1. Kids started the lesson from the parent's Dash login
If students open a browser and go directly to https://dash.2hourlearning.com to login, they can access Dashโbut this is the wrong method. Since StudyReel isn't running, none of their work gets recorded.
The right way: Students should open the StudyReel app on their Mac or PC and launch Dash from there. The "3, 2, 1 countdown" is your signal you're in the right place. ๐
2. Kids started in StudyReel, but accidentally navigated away from the correct lesson
When kids start in StudyReel, it is still possible for them to click links that take them away from the correct lesson. Usually, it's one of the following:
a. Clicking links in IXL that take them to other lessons
b. Clicking links that open Chrome or Safari windows
When this happens, StudyReel is still running, but the work is now happening outside the frame and will not be tracked. Some good preventative measures include not having other browser windows open (you won't need them) and ensuring that (especially in 3rd party apps) you stay within the assigned lessons to avoid navigating away.
Not logged into correct account (siblings)
Another cause we see is if a student logs into their own StudyReel account, but their sibling's Dash account.
โ
At this login screen, you may see both siblings listed to login into Dash if both students are sharing the same computer. It is critical to select the same student account at both the StudyReel and the Dash login screens.
Both are shown below.

Latency
The third most-common reason is due to simple latency. Because StudyReel is gathering data and then reporting summaries of that data to Dash, this does not usually happens instantly. A few hours is normal, but the following day is when you can be sure 100% of the data has been uploaded to Dash.
