Introduction
Inside the Daily View in Dash, you'll notice that some objects turn green while others stay a muted purple. (If you know that color better than we do, please share.)
This is what you'll see in Dash:
β
Subjects that turn green are referred to as a "2hr Session". This is the most obvious signal to mom or dad that the student has met their goals in this subject for the day. There are 2 paths to make a session a "2hr Session", so let's explore them both.
Why do 2hr Sessions matter?
2hr Sessions are the clearest signal that a student has both mastered the content for the day and likely demonstrated good study habits while working. By viewing the individual metrics in the rings (covered more below) parents and students can get an easily visualization of the work completed for the day.
Getting a 2hr Session: Testing Path
The first path to create a 2hr Session is fairly simple. If the student is rostered to take a Mastery test that day and they complete the test, the subject will automatically be scored as a 2hr Session. This allows the student to consider that subject complete for the day. (They do not have to also master skills)
If the student wants to master skills and continue working they are of course always encouraged to do so, but this is not required for a 2
Getting a 2hr Session: Skills Path
The second path to create 2hr Session is the more common variety. In this case, the student must meet 2 criteria while mastering content.
Master the required number of lessons for the subject (the purple ring)
Work above 80% accuracy (the blue ring)
Meeting both criteria will result in a 2hr Session and the subject turning green. Time (the magenta ring) is not counted as part of a session, but is still a helpful metric to understand.
Parents may decide that time is a good motivation tool. For kids that master their content early, that's minutes they get back where they can get a head start on the next subject, or work on something else (or take a longer break).
β
On the other hand, there are kids who may interpret finishing early as an incentive to rush through content, and this strategy backfires. When kids rush through content, it actually takes them much longer to master skills.
Summary
With Alpha Anywhere, it is always about mastering skills. This is what moves kids forward. A clear and easy way to see daily progress is by measuring "2hr Sessions" to understand if all the criteria was met for the subject for the day.
