Nice Academy is the middle-school science program for grades 6 – 8, with an NGSS-aligned curriculum of videos, articles, interactive lessons, and plenty of practice - quizzes, unit tests, and course challenges.
Your child moves through four courses in order: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space Science, mastering each lesson (80% or better) before the next unlocks, and the most XP goes to mastering on the first try.
How to log in
Apps in TimeBack log in automatically as standard. If the automatic login doesn't work, follow the steps below.
You can sign in using Google Single-Sign-On (SSO) - your child clicks “Sign in with TimeBack SSO” and signs in with Google using their @2hourlearning account, with their password provided on your parents portal.
Open TimeBack: Sign in to TimeBack and find your child's Nice Academy science course on your “Home.”
Launch Nice Academy: Open the "subject tab" and click Jump In.
Continue with TimeBack: If asked to sign in, click “Continue with TimeBack” on the Nice Academy login page.
Watch, then practice: Each lesson opens with a video or article. Watch or read it, then take the exercise (80% masters it and unlocks the next).
How a lesson works
Each lesson starts with instruction - a video and/or article; your child must watch or read it before the exercise.
Then comes the exercise; 80% accuracy or better masters the lesson and unlocks the next one (lessons are done in order).
If your child gets a question wrong, the explanation shows why. Reading it is the fastest way to get the next one right.
Hints and the option to rewatch the video are there whenever a question is tricky.
How XP works
Fewer attempts = more XP
Nice Academy rewards getting it right early. The XP for a lesson's videos and articles is “banked” and only paid out once your child scores at least 80% on the matching exercise.
1st attempt
100% accuracy = Full XP + 25% bonus XP
80–99% accuracy = Full XP
0–79% accuracy = 0 XP
2nd attempt
100% accuracy = 50% of Full XP + 25% of the earned XP
80–99% accuracy = 50% of Full XP
0–79% accuracy = 0 XP
3rd attempt
100% accuracy = 25% of Full XP + 25% of the earned XP
80–99% accuracy = 25% of Full XP
0–79% accuracy = 0 XP
One thing to know: if a lesson isn't mastered within three attempts, the banked XP from its videos and articles is lost, so it really pays to slow down and master on the first try rather than guessing.
Note:
XP is obtained for exercises, quizzes, videos, and articles.
Videos and articles give XP only after finishing the related exercise or quiz.
The Course Progression Path
You will begin Nice Academy Middle School Science with Biology and will be automatically enrolled in the next course upon mastery. The structure for middle-school Science is as follows:
Biology → Chemistry → Physics → Earth & Space Science
After completing all four courses, you will be assigned a 6th-grade standardized Science test:
With an accuracy of 90%+, the test is considered mastered, and you will be assigned a 7th-grade test.
Below 90% = Knowledge-gap assignment → personalized lessons will be given in MobyMax and/or Nice Academy. Once completed, you will be able to retake the 6th-grade test.
This mastery cycle repeats for 7th grade and 8th grade.
Once you master the 8th-grade test, you will be enrolled in the High School Biology course in Nice Academy.
Habits that lead to success
Watch the video and read the article carefully before the exercise; take notes if it helps.
Aim to master on the first try; 100% earns bonus XP, and each extra attempt earns less.
Don't skip explanations. Read the explanation after every wrong answer; it shows how to solve the next one.
Use hints or rewatch the video when you're stuck, rather than guessing.
For numeric answers over 999, don't use commas; follow the format the question asks for.
How to tell it's working
Steady XP and lessons moving to mastered are the signs it's working. Because XP shrinks with each attempt, and banked video/article XP is lost after three misses, high effort with low XP usually means rushing or guessing on the exercises.
Slowing down to watch the instruction and read explanations is what turns effort into XP. TimeBack shows earned XP and accuracy, and flags any unmastered lesson with a “Try Again” status.

How does my child log in?

Nice Academy opened on a “My courses” / profile page
If your child lands on the “My Profile” page instead of a lesson, close that tab and click Start Activity again from TimeBack, that opens the correct lesson.
My child's XP keeps shrinking
Nice Academy pays the most XP for mastering on the first try (100% adds a 25% bonus). A second pass earns half, a third a quarter, and the fourth attempt onward earns none. If a lesson isn't mastered within three attempts, the banked XP from its videos and articles is lost. The fix is to slow down, watch the instruction, and read the explanations rather than guessing.
My child can't move to the next lesson
Lessons are sequential; your child must master the current one (80% or higher on its exercise) before the next unlocks. An unmastered lesson shows a “Try Again” status in TimeBack.
An answer was marked wrong but looks right
For numeric answers, follow the format the question asks for; in particular, don't use commas as thousands separators (type 1000, not 1,000).
