MAP eligibility: what your child needs for the next test

How eligibility is measured for each subject, where to see it, and what to do if a subject is behind.

Growth is measured in 4 subjects. Math, Reading, Language, and Science. They must each qualify for the next MAP test on their own. The parent portal shows you where each one stands, every day, on the Calendar tab.

The two ways to qualify

A subject is eligible for the next test if, across the term, your child earns either:

  • 75% of its XP target: the target is 25 XP in that subject on each learning day of the term, so the bar is about 19 XP a day, or

  • the full learning-time target: 25 minutes a day in that subject.

Either one on its own is enough. Some children get there on XP, others on time. Both count the same.

Totals are counted across the whole term, so a slow stretch can be made up later.

On days your child had nothing they could work on in a subject (nothing assigned), or if the subject app was down, that day won't count toward that subject's target or pace. The card shows how many of those days don't count.

Reading the card

Each subject shows what it has earned, the term's target, and a bar with two marks:

  • The black mark is today's pace toward the full target, measured across the learning days you planned.

  • The orange mark is the least your child can be at today and still qualify.

Turn on Show all metrics to add learning time beside XP, and what an average learning day has actually been worth in each subject.

What the statuses mean

  • On track: at or near today's pace.

  • Slipping: behind the pace, but still above the minimum that qualifies.

  • Behind: below that line. At this pace, the subject wouldn't be eligible.

  • Met on time: the learning-time target is already met for the term, whatever the XP reads.

  • Guaranteed: your child's first MAP test after starting is theirs, whatever they earn. Use that term to find a pace that works; the rules apply from the test after it.

Your learning days

This target comes from our standard calendar for the term. Taking extra days off spreads the same total across fewer days, so each day has to be worth more. The setup screen shows you what your child's days have actually been worth, per subject, so you can see whether the plan is realistic.

If a subject is averaging less than the daily bar, more days off won't close the gap and fewer days will widen it. That subject needs more XP or more time on the days your child already has.

What happens if a subject is behind

  • Look at which subject it is. The card names it, and the home page shows the same verdict for every child at a glance.

  • Check the daily average under Show all metrics. A subject with a few XP a day needs more work on the days your child already has.

  • Add learning days in the term if your child's daily pace is fine but the days are too few.

  • Talk to your advisor. If a subject isn't eligible, the test cannot be taken, and missing the same subject in two testing windows in a row ends your enrollment.

Common questions

My child finished a subject. Does it still get tested?

No. There is nothing left to test, so the subject comes off the card and the term asks nothing of it.

A subject is new to my child. Are they behind in it?

No. The first MAP test in a subject is theirs whatever they have earned, and the targets start counting from the test after that. A subject that opens partway through the year, like Science, works this way.

A subject shows 0 XP for the term. What does that mean?

Nothing has been earned in it since the term started. Most often that is work still to do, and the Dash tab shows what your child has been spending their days on.
