Getting started with PhysicsGraph: Access, Troubleshooting, and FAQs

PhysicsGraph is the learning app for students learning high school physics and chemistry. Lessons mix explanations, worked examples, mastery questions, and conceptual checks, and a spaced-review system brings material back right before a student might forget it, so students build durable mastery, not just recall.

How to log in

Apps in TimeBack log in automatically as standard. If the automatic login doesn't work, follow the steps below.

PhysicsGraph uses “Sign in with Google” with the student's Google account, no separate password. The first time only, you'll tick two permission boxes to finish setup.

  1. Open TimeBack: Sign in to TimeBack and find "Science - PhysicsGraph" under the “Home” page.

  2. Click Jump In: A pop-up shows a link to launch the app.

  3. Sign in with Google: On the PhysicsGraph screen, click “Continue in with Google” and use your student's email.

  4. Getting Connected: This connects your account to PhysicsGraph, gives you full access, and sends your activity back to TimeBack.

Getting Started

Two assessments to start:
Before your first lesson, you’ll take a compulsory:

  • Readiness assessment (this takes between 30 and 60 minutes and checks the math foundations you’ll need for the course).

  • Diagnostic Assessment: After that, you’ll take a diagnostic test that lets you show what you already know and skip early lessons.

How a lesson works

Lessons appear once you have demonstrated mastery of all the assessments. If a lesson is visible, the student should have all the skills they need to succeed in it. Whenever a student completes a lesson successfully, it opens up access to more lessons they are now prepared for.

Head to your Dasboard. Your learning menu is under Next Activities: the lessons and reviews available to you right now, each with its XP value.

Each lesson builds on the next and must be done in order. Every lesson is a chain of knowledge points that mix explanations, examples, questions, and conceptual checks.

Step 1: Read the explanation

Each explanation introduces a new concept with text, diagrams, and animations. Explanations are often followed by a quick conceptual check to make sure you got it- you only need to answer one correctly to move on.

Step 2: Work the example yourself

Solve the problem on your own first, using what you learned. Then click Show solution to check. Different answer? Go through the solution and find the step you missed.

Step 3: Answer the questions to show mastery

The questions prove you’ve mastered the knowledge point. Miss some? You’ll get extra chances. Get every question in the lesson correct, and you’ll earn bonus XP at the end.

Step 4: Finish the lesson and level up

The Conceptual Check

Conceptual checks are questions that make sure the student understands what they just read in the explanation. The student only has to get one of these correct before moving on.

Complete all the knowledge points, and you’ll earn XP, open up new lessons, and choose your next learning activity.

Keeping It Fresh: Reviews

  • Reviews show up right before you might forget something, so you remember everything you’ve learned with as little wasted effort as possible.

  • At the start, you’ll see more lessons than reviews. After a long break from the app, you’ll see more reviews, and you may need to do some before your next lesson unlocks.

  • Each review also refreshes the skills underneath it, so the backlog clears faster than you think.

How XP works

  • You earn XP by completing lessons and reviews in PhysicsGraph

  • Your XP is sent to TimeBack automatically.

  • Get every question in a lesson correct to earn bonus XP at the end.

  • You can look at your XP history in your activity log on TimeBack.

⚠️Important: If a student misses too many questions in a lesson, they are given a break and allowed to try the lesson again later. This is by design-it is a signal to review, not a failure.

Habits that lead to success

  • Work the example before peeking: The solution is for checking your work, not replacing it.

  • Go for the perfect lesson: Every correct question = bonus XP at the end.

  • Don’t dodge reviews: A few minutes of review now beats relearning it all later.

  • Take the top item: When unsure, the top item on your learning menu is always the most efficient path.

How to tell it's working: Your progress

Your progress lives on the Knowledge Graph inside the app. You’ll see it at the end of every lesson. If a lesson shows up on your menu, you should already have every skill you need to succeed in it.

Common Issues | FAQs

How does my child log in?

TimeBack auto-signs you into PhysicsGraph. You can also sign in using Google Single-Sign-On (SSO) - your child clicks “Sign in with TimeBack SSO” and signs in with Google using their @2hourlearning account, with their password provided on your parent's portal.

Why do I take a math readiness assessment before physics?

Physics leans on math, so the 30–60 minute readiness check confirms you have the math foundations the course needs. It's meant to feel like math, not physics; that's expected. Depending on the test, physics is longer than chemistry

My XP isn't showing up in TimeBack

XP syncs automatically but can take a little time to appear on TimeBack. If it's still missing after a while, reach out through Alphie.

I don't see any lessons available yet

You may still need to finish the readiness and diagnostic assessments first, or, after a break from the app, reviews resurface, and you may need to clear a few before your next lesson unlocks. Each review also refreshes the skills beneath it, so the list clears faster than it looks.
